The Maake police outside Tzaneen are still looking for the family of an unknown man who was brutally killed by a group of residents at Pharare Village.
This is the third incident this year in which community members have taken the law into their own hands, killing suspected criminals. Their actions have been condemned by the police.
It is alleged that the deceased was cornered by a group of community members after they accused him of having being involved in a series of house-breaking incidents in the area for some time.
“Upon arrest on Friday, they started assaulting him with various objects until he died, where they tied him on both hands and legs; and his body was then taken away and dumped in the bushes outside that village and later found by a passerby with multiple open wounds throughout the body,” said police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe.
At this stage the suspects are still unknown, there have been no arrests and police investigations are still continuing.
Anyone who can assist in the identification of the deceased is asked to visit Maake Police Station at any time.
